Cute Clothesline Journal Pages
This is a fun journal project that combines watercolour and junk journalling across a two-page spread. You can watch the video here or on YouTube, and follow along with the instructions below. If you don't feel inclined to paint, you can find the little clothes cut-outs in the Library.
To start, find some unused pages in your altered book journal project. You can choose any pages you like as long as it's two facing pages.
I used clips to hold the pages open so it would be easier to add to them.
Next, I found a background paper I liked and printed it on tracing paper. I wanted to print of the book pages to show through but not be so bold. I cut the paper with the sky and flowers so that it fit nicely on each page, just covering the print.

You can use any papers you like for your background. I wanted it to look like a breezy day.
Next, I sketched a few simple garment on watercolour paper using a fine pencil. If you watch the video, you can see how easy these are to draw.

Once I had the pencil sketches, I went over the outlines with a black Pigma Micron pen in 05, correcting the lines here and there as I used the permanent pen. It's important the ink you use is permanent or archival because if it's not, when you add water to it, the ink will run and ruin your work.
Once the ink is dry, you can erase the pencil lines and start painting.

Choose any colours that strike your fancy. For instructions on how to create the ombré look of the dress, watch the video.
Once your watercolour paint is completely dry, you can cut out the little garments. These are available as download in the Library if you want to use them instead.
Using light hemp twine, I cut two pieces to fit on the pages as shown. Then I glued each end down. I used Aleene's Tacky glue, but a glue gun would also work and probably dry a lot faster.
I decided to embellish the pages a little more for a breezy feel and added some cute pieces of ephemera.

The butterflies were a dollar store find. You can place the clothing pieces where you would like them to hang so you know where to add elements without having them covered up by the clothes.
I also added so botanical washi stickers along the bottom amongst the flowers on the background paper.

Once my page was decorated, I attached the clothes to the lines using paper clips. The glue holding the clotheslines in place was still not completely dry so I clipped them in place to keep them from moving.
For journalling, you can write on the backs of the clothes pieces, and no one will be the wiser. You could also write on the background if you liked, which would give the pages a more collaged/art journal look.
I hope you give this project a try. It's super cute and fun to make. Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel for more ideas and inspiration.
